Meet the folks who lead Pennsylvania Avenue Church.
George met Jesus in 7th grade. However, discipleship is hard to come by in an addicted family environment. Late in high school and into college, George was discipled by several men who loved Jesus. They taught him to read the Bible, to pray, and to share his faith. George reluctantly abandoned his pursuit of medical school and moved to Kentucky to study Bible and theology. He tries to live according to the story of Jesus and has been able to share His story in Kenya, Malawi, California, Tennessee, and now in Iowa.
George is the Lead Pastor at Pennsylvania Avenue Church. He oversees the teaching, equipping, missional, and small group life aspects of the church. He and his wife, Crystal, enjoy life with their six children and can often be found reading together, playing games, enjoying the outdoors, and doing jiu-jitsu.
A former Salvationist, Jesus found Cathy during a Salvation Army program called "Kids Club" at an early age. Later, she met her future husband, Jerry, through their youth program. After Jerry served in the US Navy they were married and have two children, Lisa and David, and six grandchildren. Jerry and Cathy love and serve God faithfully through their involvement in the church, where Cathy plays the keyboard and Jerry greets people at the front door.
Cathy is likely the first face you'll see if you stop by the church offices. She oversees many of the administrative details that go on in this place. Now both retired, Cathy enjoys doing crafts and working at her home based video business while Jerry enjoys meeting with the guys at the local YMCA.
